How to Make Vanilla Sugar

Vanilla sugar is seriously one of the best things to hit your pantry to up your holiday baking game.  I like to put together a big batch in early Fall so by the time Thanksgiving and Christmas roll around, the flavor has intensified to its maximum potency!   I confess, sometimes I like just pulling the lid off the jar and smelling it.  There is no cheaper therapy than aromatherapy especially during the hustle and bustle of holiday time.

Did I mention this also makes an amazing hostess gift or homemade gift for your fellow bakers?  They will be singing your praises when they add this to their coveted cookie recipes!  Finally, in case you need more incentive to make this, you will save a bundle of money compared to buying it at the store. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone to a fancy pants cooking store or spice shop and saw their version of vanilla sugar.  (The exact same stuff I’ll show you how to make!)  At one of my favorite spice stores, it is $15 for 1 cup of vanilla sugar.  In the video below, I show you how to make almost 8x the amount for the same price!  To put it another way, if you bought the fancy pants version for the amount I’m about to show you how to make, you’d pay $120!!  I don’t know about you but I’ll take $15-20* over $120 any day of the week!

*- Vanilla bean prices fluctuate so at the time of publishing, it cost me $16 to make.  Even for a few dollars more (or less!) still the best value you can get for an artisan product!

I'm a long time cook/baker that makes food centric recipe videos to help the novice cook or welcome a seasoned cook that wants to focus on the food. I'm passionate about both Christmas and cooking. Once my baking gene gets activated in September, I want to bake all the things. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and come on into my kitchen!
